Top Window Trends for 2019

Black Frames

One of the biggest window trends to emerge in 2019 is the use of black frames. The use of black windows is not a new concept - it's actually centuries old and making a comeback.

Wendy O’Brien, winner of several interior decorating awards, touched on the history of black windows in a conversation with Nilon Construction in Oregon:

“The black/bronze framed windows, you’re seeing a lot of now, definitely have a history. Around the turn of the century, iron then steel was used for large glass windows for industrial and commercial spaces. Unfortunately, the crudeness of both materials weren’t aesthetically pleasing for homes, but with modern materials such as fiberglass and lighter weight materials (that also don’t conduct heat), manufacturers are producing energy efficient products with a clean, refined look suitable for the modern or traditional styles.”

It's a simple yet elegant look, and can set your home apart before others jump on board.

Black window frames are both contemporary and timeless.

Large Windows

Not only are dark frames trending, but large ones as well.

"The forecast for windows in the coming year and beyond is big units with an unobstructed viewing field, set in minimal frames of a dark hue," according to Builder Online.

For replacement windows, that might mean doing some demolition work on a wall to facilitate bigger frames. When it comes to new builds, homeowners are trying to get as much glass in their homes as possible within their means and budget.

Corner windows are also trending as a result.

Large windows remain hot in 2019.

Environmentally Friendly

Saving on monthly hydro bills will never go out of style.

Drafty or damaged windows can cause your energy bills to be about 10% to 25% higher, according to

Replacing old, drafty, single-pane windows with locally-made, Energy Star certified products can result in substantial savings.

As an added bonus, those new windows - and the resulting energy cost savings - can be a big selling point if you’re considering selling your home.

Ensure comfort and savings with energy efficient windows.
